PRAYER ALERT: CHRISTIANS FACING VIOLENCE AND DISPLACEMENT IN ETHIOPIA AND INDIA

Christians in Ethiopia and India are facing renewed violence, intimidation and displacement, highlighting the challenges confronting Believers who seek to remain faithful to their beliefs.

In Ethiopia, at least 60 Orthodox Christians were killed in two separate attacks in the Oromiya region on 20 and 24 October 2026. According to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, 14 people were killed in Merti and another 46 in Sherka. More than 20 homes were reportedly burned, while over 20 people were hospitalised with serious injuries. Responsibility for the attacks remains disputed, with regional authorities and a rebel alliance trading accusations. The Church has called on the government to protect civilians and bring those responsible to justice.

In India, Christian families in two villages in Chhattisgarh have reportedly been forced from their homes after refusing to renounce their faith. Reports indicate that household belongings were thrown outside and roofs were removed, leaving families without proper shelter. These incidents reflect the growing pressures faced by Christian communities in parts of the country, where standing firm in their faith can come at a significant personal cost.

As families mourn loved ones, lose their homes and face uncertainty, let us remember them in prayer. May God bring comfort to those who are grieving, provide for those who have been displaced and strengthen His Church to remain steadfast in the face of persecution.

PRAYER POINTS

  1. Pray for the families of those killed and injured in Ethiopia, asking God to bring comfort, healing and justice.
  2. Pray for displaced Christian families in India, that they will find safe shelter, provision and protection, and that they will not lose hope.
  3. Pray for peace in both nations, for an end to religious persecution and for Christians to remain strong in their faith despite opposition.
