From dusk on Saturday 9 March till Monday 8 April, the world’s Muslims will fast daily from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan is considered a time of self-denial, spiritual reflection, and community.

Many Muslim friends and neighbours may have a heightened spiritual awareness and vulnerability as they seek the truth during this time. What they need deeply is to encounter the light of this world, Christ our risen Saviour – who will be celebrated by Christians (Easter) worldwide closer to the end of Ramadan.

Interesting Facts:

NUMBER OF MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD

Over two billion
(2nd largest religion)

MUSLIM MAJORITY NATIONS

49 worldwide

LARGEST MUSLIM NATIONS

Indonesia followed by Pakistan

MUSLIM HOLY SITES

Kaaba (Mecca)
Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (Medina)
Al-Aqsa Mosque (Jerusalem)
Umayyad Mosque (Damascus)

While most Muslims see Ramadan as a time of peace and spiritual renewal, over the past years there has frequently been an increase in attacks by Islamist extremists during the month of Ramadan. Leaders of both the Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaeda have, in the past, called for violence to commemorate Ramadan and for their followers to do battle against ‘unbelievers’. A promise of “greater spiritual reward,” often accompanies such calls to violence.

Islam is the world’s second-largest religion, after Christianity, and is currently said to be the fastest-growing major religion in the world (in terms of percentage and worldwide spread). During Ramadan this year, as followers of Christ, we have the privilege to invest in the Muslim world and the extension of God’s Kingdom therein. We can also bear witness of our risen Saviour to our Muslim neighbours in our own nations.

During this time, Muslims go on a spiritual journey in search of truth, and they open themselves up – the evil one could use this as an opportunity to further blind the and possibly leave them spiritually worse off and further away from the truth than they were before Ramadan.

Please join with us as we intercede for Muslims around the world during this time of heightened spiritual awareness and vulnerability – for Christ to reveal Himself to more Muslims and for the Kingdom of light to gain ground in Muslims hearts.
